As the new President of the Rodney Fair, I want to thank you (the community), event superintendents, our sponsors and the most amazing people I have worked with – the “Fair Board” – for helping make the 2018 Fair weekend happen.

The Rodney Aldborough Agricultural Society puts this fair on for the people in our local communities. It’s because of your class entries; our farmers and their crops; our cattle, horse, and sheep exhibitors; generous sponsors and the visitors that makes the Fair a success. Thank you to all who come out to enjoy the hard work and effort people put into their entries and “thank you” for coming to enjoy the entertainment we have put together for you everywhere on site.

In years past when Rodney Fair had a midway, it was available to us at no cost.  It was great; we had rides and games which brought you to the Fair.  However, in recent times midway companies started charging for their equipment, adding a large financial burden to Fair finances already strained due to increased expenses and declining attendance. This has been the main reason a Midway has been absent from the Rodney Fair for the last few years.  The good news is that in 2018, the MIDWAY IS BACK!

Events such as The Big Buck and Outdoor Show, Farmers Night, and Garage Sale have enabled us to secure a Midway, but we still need more funds.  In August the Fair Board is helping at the Port Glasgow Fish Fry (a portion of the profits come to the Fair) and plans are in place for a Paint Night, Loonie Auction and Fun Run/Walk.  Please come along and support our fundraising efforts.

The Midway isn’t the only major attraction on offer.  Friday night features the Tractor Pull and we have moved the Demolition Derby to Saturday evening. New entertainment includes Dotsy the Clown, Yvette and her Puppet Friends with Rodney her pet dragon, Ron Guttman the Party Magician, The Hockey Circus Show, and the Indigo Select Entertainment Circus Show.  The Agility Dogs, TJ Stables and the popular Classic Championship Wrestlers are also returning.  There are also numerous ag events in the in-field or check out the farming, baking, and photography exhibits in the Rec Center.  I am very excited to see the new and old events come together.

I think this year’s fair will be GREAT so please come along and ENJOY!!

See you at the Fair!!

Alyson Hawken, 2018 President
