Crafts and Hobbies

Prize Sections 1–58:  1st $2.50; 2nd $1.50; 3rd $1.00

Children 6 and under as of September, 2018.

  1. A finger print – “Mighty Machines Making Tracks to the Fair”.
  2. Play dough farm animal.
  3. Make a 2D “Mighty Machine” using popsicle sticks (glued to a piece of paper).
  4. Make a picture using stickers.

Children 7-9 as of September, 2018

  1. Colour a page from a colouring book with wax crayon, mounted on construction paper.
  2. Make a farm animal paper bag puppet.
  3. Make a mosaic landscape out of torn construction paper.
  4. Draw a picture of your pet or a favourite animal.

Children 10-12 as of September 2018

  1. Create a harvest of Thanksgiving wreath.
  2. Create a 3D “Mighty Machine” out of popsicle sticks or LEGO.
  3. Make a dream catcher.
  4. Create a farm hat with the theme “Mighty Machines Making Tracks to the Fair”.
  5. Pencil sketch – any subject.

Children 13-15 as of September 2018

  1. Make a paper mache “Mighty Machine”.
  2. Article made from recycled material in the Fair theme.
  3. Make a hand made friendship bracelet.
  4. Painting – acrylic – any subject.
  5. Make a tie dyed article.

Children 16-18 as of September 2018

  1. Pencil sketch – 8 ½” x 11”
    • Animal
    • Portrait
    • Scenic
  2. Three (3) 4” x 6” photos, mounted on a 12” x 16” paper.
    • Weather
  3. Monochromatic painting – 11” x 17”.
  4. Abstract painting – 11” x 17”

Baking

 Children 6 and under as of September 2018

  1. One (1) decorated cookie (decoration only judged).
  2. Make an edible necklace.
  3. Homemade Trail Mix in a Ziploc bag.

Children 7-9 as of September 2018

  1. Three (3) Brownie Squares (no nuts) – approximately 1” square.
  2. Three (3) cupcakes with edible decoration (decoration only to be judged)
  3. Five (5) sugar cookies.

Children 10-12 as of September 2018

  1. Five (5) decorated cupcakes with the Fair theme – “Mighty Machines Making Tracks to the Fair”.
  2. Three (3) decorated Rice Krispie Stars with added flair such as candy, chocolate, sprinkles etc.
  3. Five (5) pieces of Chocolate Fudge.

Children 13-15 as of September 2018

  1. Three (3) decorated cupcakes – one theme (only decorations judged).
  2. Three (3) Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins.
  3. Five (5) brownies with icing. No nuts.

Children 16-18 as of September 2018

  1. Homemade pretzel
  2. Caramel popcorn – 1 cup – sealed in a Ziploc bag.
  3. Plate of three (3) edible items dipped in chocolate (please name the food items if not visible).

Flowers

Reminder:  Open to 18 and under.  Be sure entry tags are securely attached.

Note:  Be sure to name variety when asked.  When exhibiting flowers, a bud is considered a bloom.

  1. Container herb garden
  2. “Wedding Bouquet for a Farmers Daughter”
  3. “Gardeners Delight”. An arrangement in or wild flowers and weeds arranged in a watering can.
  4. “Country Bouquet”. An arrangement of greenery in an unusual container.
  5. “Green Thumb”. Arrangement of greenery in an unusual container.
  6. Snapdragons – 3
  7. Gladiolus – 1 spike
  8. Zinnias – 3 blooms over 4”
  9. Zinnias – 3 blooms under 4”
  10. Floating flower head
  11. One cut stem from a summer flowering bulb Gladiolus – rhizome such as Canna Lillies, Begonias, Day Lillies or Gladiolus.
  12. Largest Sunflower – head only
  13. Flower arrangement
  14. Marigolds in a theme container (is this the Fair theme?)

Fruits, Vegetables and Field Crops

  4. Gourds displayed in a basket.
  5. Arrangement of six (6) different vegetables. Arrangement to count.
  6. Best pumpkin dressed as a farmer.
  7. Best dressed vegetable, fruit or gourd in the Fair theme (“Mighty Machines Making Tracks to the Fair”).
